Job Title: Lead Urban Farmer
Level/Salary Range: $18,304 for a .75 salary position with most hours from late February to mid November.
10 days paid vacation/personal leave (ideally during the off season) and Workers comp.
Job Description
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Primary responsibility for assigned gardens including on-going maintenance and customer relations
• Management of urban farm teams through out the season
• Assistance with:
• -Development and growth of ABYF
• -Home and Garden Show February 26 2016-March 6st 2016
• -Garden installations
• -Spring planting extravaganza
• -Greenhouse and plant maintenance
• -Social media and newsletter
• -Recipe testing
• -Upkeep of ABYF grounds and equipment
• -Pick up of supplies
• -School and community garden programs
• -Training and support of new workers
• -Fall garden closings
• Other duties as necessary to meet ABYF mission and goals
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Experience/education in sustainability, agriculture, education/social services, or gardening. Skills and aptitude in communicating with co-workers and the public. Enthusiasm for the locavore, slow food, and organic movements. Attention to detail and organizational skills.
PREFERRED SKILLS
Knowledge of square foot gardening principles, organic pest and plant disease controls, soil and growing conditions suitable for urban vegetable gardening, and succession planting and harvesting.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
Drivers license and car and ability to lift 40 pounds of compost required.
